The art of a camera in the Dominican Republic

One of the best things about living in the Dominican Republic is being able to see the most beautiful children in the world every day!

I always have a small digital camera on my belt just for shots like this.
They are beautiful and the unique ways they use to cool off are fun to watch.
Who would have thunk living in the US that this is a fun way for kids to cool off without being near a beach, pool or anywhere?
Wonderful smile is always a pleasure to see!

Yuca from the farm of Escott in Sosua Dominican Republic

This is a picture of Escott's World Famous Yuca Fritter. I can assure you that this is the only "World Famous" food known in Sosua. All other claims are just Bullshit made by Bozo's who know nothing! I picked the Yuca from my farm up in Haciendas El Choco, took it home grated it and mixed it with eggs, onions, garlic and other special ingredients. Fried it up in a pan with PAM which is a spray so it doesn't get all greased up and keeps it healthy although Pan Fried.

Lovely meal or appetiser depending on how you choose to serve it. Everyone from all over the world has enjoyed and loved my fritters. This is what I have called Dominican Food with a twist and the Dominicans have loved them and raved about them.

Da Boys are Back!

Da boys are back in Town. I originally met this crew or actually 1 guy from the crew, the guy on the right closest when I was in Boca Chica a few years ago with another buddy Professor Tom. We were all staying in the same Condo complex. Bunch of nice guys with great sense of humor from NY and guess what, we became friends immediately.

Started hanging out at the pool and beach together. These guys had never been to the North Coast and I told them to come and they will NEVER return to Boca Chica! Well they came and haven't returned that I know of and they have been several times already. Joseph, the guy on the left, for him it was his first trip.

I always hang out with these guys and have a nice time. Joseph stayed an extra day because he couldn't get on the same plane home which was booked so he got the Finca Tour and the Sosua Tour.

We ended up having a few beers with my old broken down buddy Doug Hicks who is recovering from a broken ankle he got on our last Motorcycle ride. We went to some tipico up in the hills of Sosua sat down asked them to cut the music down so we all could talk and relax.

After that we went back to my condo where Maria was furious with me. I had left my phone in the car while we were having beers and she called me 8 times which I didn't even realize until I ran into Ramona who is the administrator of my condo complex and she even had tried to call me because Maria was so worried but didn't get her call either.

We ended up going out to dinner and she calmed down and halfway through dinner I finally got a smile out of her. Man do they worry!

My friend Joseph who is a teacher in Brooklyn and Maria and I had dinner in a tipical Dominican Restaurant the other night in Cabarete. The name of the place is Tipical Mercedes and Mercedes is the owner/cook and her kids are the waiters and busboys. I have been eating here for YEARS. Food is good albeit not as cheap as when I first started going there and the people are great.

All Joseph was able to say was "How the heck did you even find this place". Way off the beaten track would be kind:)

My Condo 1 block from Main beach in Sosua DR

Well since I have decided to move into one of the houses I have in Cabrera I have decided to sell my two condos in El Neptuno in Sosua. This is the one I live in and I am going to sell it for 159k. Two good size bedrooms and 2 nice bathrooms all renovated from tile floor to custom light fixtures that are works of Art I had made specifically for this condo.

This is the dining area which has had many dinner parties over the years and a lot of vintage wines and ports served to many guests!
This is the dining area facing the breakfast bar which happens to be loaded with liquors from the restaurant I have sold.

This is the guest room. It has a full size bed and a twin size platform bed with drawers under. Sorry about the mess but we were just packing up to go away for the weekend when I took these pictures.
This is the master bedroom, complete with Nightstand, dresser, queen bed, Rocking Chair, HUGE ottomen and wall to wall closets. There closets are HUGE here although I am a clothes horse and could always use more.

This is the living room overlooking the balcony. Balcony even sits 8 or 9 people and is fully tiled with a fan to keep the air moving even on a hot day. Loads of plants for privacy outside also.

El Tablon Charimcos Sosua Dominican Republic

I did a blog entry a while back where I posted pictures of the devastation of a neighborhood to make room for a public park. These pictures are where they moved the people to. So what they did was wreck one slum to build another slum. I thought it was actually nicer than what it turned out to be but alas since being inside of the neighborhood and one of the apartments it is just another slum in training. The place is huge and a concrete Jungle. The apartments are small and I guess that the government thought that they were doing something good for these people and so did I until I actually saw the place.

Disnalda the little girl that I have I guess sponsored is now living here. It is TIGHT and the apartments are right on top of each other with bad craftsmanship on top of that. Disnaldas mom says the noise it intense and it is much louder than it was where they lived in a wood shack in El Tablon.

Already since this is a condo there are apartments for sale. That is the one thing better about this place is that they have title. Before they had only squatters rights and the homes were sold with just a lawyers contract just like much of the places in the cities slums.

Elvis doing his Duty

These are pictures of my BEAUTIFUL German Shepherd. He is about 4 months now and doing GREAT. I am going to enter him in dog shows. I am 100% certain I will be able to finish him and make him a champ.

When I am finished with this bad boy he will be like a loaded gun. I use to breed and train German Shepherds in the states for many years and had one of the larger kennels in the US for working dogs. Many of my dogs went to Police work and sight dogs for the blind.
This is Elvis after telling the sheeps and the goats he is in town and is the new Sherrif. I put him in the pasture to get exercise and to form his dominant relationship with his flock of goats and sheep. He sometimes chases them around the pasture for 20 minutes at a time and even at 4 months catches a few. I am in the pasture with him now to make sure he knows what his bounds are.
This is an outstanding example of the breed who loves to work and to please. He was the alpha male and while difficult as pups to raise he will be a great working dog. I will also attack train him when he is older but he is already taking to that sort of work with the Haitian workers:)

I got a call from his breeder. He has his sister who was the alpha female of the litter and the breeder can't handle her. He offered her to me for free which I am considering. I am going to see her this weekend in Santo Domingo and will make up my mind if I want to take her or not. Depends on how she tests out and what she looks like to me. Then I have to decide. I have to separate them when she is in heat which will be a pain in the ass.

I'm BACK!!!! and Heeeeeeere's Disnalda

I had the pleasure of being allowed to spend the day with Disnalda on her birthday! I took her along with Maria and Maria's son Melvin to Puerto Plata to buy her some new clothes. Nothing easier than buying beautiful clothes for a beautiful young lady who is growing up WAY TOO FAST.

I told her mom when I returned her that I was going to take my Machete and cut her off at the knees so I can have my little girl back. She is turning into a beautiful young lady who is doing great in school. Lots of fun to hang out with also. Her mother thanked me when I returned her but all I could say was "NO THANK YOU". I meant that from the bottom of my heart!
This is one of the new outfits we bought along with about 6 others:) She is wearing everything new to go home in because she had her birthday party that evening.

Besides going to shop we stopped at Pizza Hut in Playa Dorada and had some great food that everyone loved. After Pizza we went back to the house to go swimming in the pool since that is what we always do!

Matter of fact we all went back Saturday night for dinner. Maria's son Melvin and Marias sisters daughter who was also with us wanted Pizza again so we called Disnaldas mom on the way and she said it was ok to take her also. What luck, two times in one week having the company of the LOVELY Disnalda!

Sorry all for not updating but there was a problem with logging into the blog. Sometimes it takes a while to straighten out.

Vacation time Isla Soana y Bayahibe

The highlight of my trip was Bayahibe and taking an excursion to Isla Saona. I have been to Bayahibe a few times before but never went to the out islands. This first picture is Maria when we were returning on a large Sailboat/Catamaran with a large group of people. It was a party for sure.

The cost of this excursion was 1200 pesos per person which is about 45 us dollars. We left in a Motorboat and returned on the Cat. It was all inclusive with drinks and food. Also there was entertainment all day which was fun.

This is the beach in Isla Soana. Lovely white sand beaches with lovely turquois waters. The ride out was about 50 minutes not including a swimming stop.

This was Maria's first time on any sort of Boat. When we were first headed out there with Maria holding my forearm reminded me of taking a hit while training a rottweiler using a sleeve. The teeth didn't get to me but the pressure was intense and hurt. She held so hard to my arm I thought I was going to turn black and blue.

Most Dominicans only experience on boats is taking the Yola to Puerto Rico. A yola is something like the 20 person boat we took to Isla Soana but with 89 t0 100 people on it. A lot of times they sink with a lot of loss of life. Dominicans even though most don't attempt the yola hear from survivors how bad it was. Going through the Mona Passage to Puerto Rico is dangerous in a safe boat most times let alone overcrowded to the max.

Vacation on the South and East Coast of Dominican Republic

About once a year I get the urge to be a tourist and head to the tourist laden East and South Coast.

This is one of my favorite places called Altos de Chavon which is a replica of a small Italian village sitting atop Rio (River) de Chavon. It has an art school and an amphitheater.

This year I did this trip with Maria and no one else. Traveling with others is a burden usually with different people wanting different things and aquiesing to others while noble sucks:)

One of my past favorite things to do was to buy signed and number lithos done by past students. You never know, the piece you buy there for pennies can be worth a fortune when the artist grows up. I have 7 of these hanging on my walls in my condos now. Unfortunately they only had one to sell and all of the ones that they had were dirty and torn.

There is now a 5 dollar entry fee to go into Altos de Chavon but Dominicans don't have to pay. They made me show my cedula although they didn't make Maria show hers since she walked in after me:) This is just another reason to be a citizen. Freaks everyone out and taking bets that I am Dominican is the other:)
This picture is overlooking the Rio Chavon. Nothing too impressive to me, just another dirty polluted river in the Dominican Republic.

If you get to this side of the island it is a must see and will be on the future "Escott South and East Coast Tour".

He said I would lose money on the sale of the restaurant. Well I sold it and I made more than he has made the whole time he has been in Sosua. That mental midget who hides in a little room being the QUEEN of the internet hasn't gotten the first thing right in his life I can guarantee it.

If you want bad food, stupid advice, horrible lodgings or to hear about his sex life (which is sexual harrassment of his employees) check into Rockys Bar in Sosua where terrible service is the norm, passive cigarette smoking will kill you and his sex stories will bore you to death.

Nice Weekend

First of all I have to give credit for this photo to my friend Amity. She sent me a link to her picture storage and I yoked this one to post on the blog when I had a chance. Beautiful flower!

Saturday I worked a half day getting stuff done at the new location for QuiXotes which is located inside the Europa Hotel on Pedro Clisante on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic.

They finished banging out the concrete the stone floor was set in and tomorrow which is Monday they start regrouting it with Granito. That is crushed granite what has a nice look to it.

Hopefully this week I get the storefront installed that will separate the restaurant from the Pool area in the back. Next will be to get another set of double glass doors set to make a dining area that I can Air Condition. It will be pretty small and only seat from 20 t0 24 people but that is a lot if I can serve that area 2x for dinner which I am planning on doing eventually on those hot summer nights.

Also the Top cabinates have been stripped to put smoked glass on the outside looking in and mirrors on the doors facing out with lights. That should be finished this coming week also.

Ah more about the restaurant when I go back to work tomorrow. Saturday afternoon when I was finished working I called my buddy Jackie Quontree to see how he was doing and perhaps to have dinner with him. I was actually thinking about going up to Puerto Plata and eating and hanging there but he came to Sosua instead. We met at Eddys Sports Bar to watch the Heavyweight fight that was on the big screen and then had dinner at Asiatico which is also located in Eddys Sports Bar.

I had Yellow Seafood Curry which was out of this world. Jackie had some sort of pork dish with rice and he said he liked it a lot also. Afterwards we went over to the new restaurant to show him what had happened since he was there the week before. After hanging out there for a while we went out prowling the streets. First stop was Lou's NY Shark Bar. Had some good conversations and drinks with Lou and hit the road again. To make a long story short we spent the night on the town and chatting most of the night. At the end of the night I suggest to Jackie to stay over and he could return to Puerto Plata after breakfast which he agreed to and I took him to his car and he followed me home and then disappeared and has never been heard from again! Oh well, I am not my brothers keeper.

Today I went to the home of Avocado Brian with my friend Camden Tom. Tom wanted to see how and what Brian did to his Gentlemans farm since he also bought a farm in the area and is still unsure which direction to go in with it. We spent the day sampling wines and liquors and having enjoyable conversations. Brian has a winery and a distillary close by and makes both liquors and wines locally. I plan on selling these at QuiXotes when we open.

Came home and just hung out on the computer listening to music and relaxing the rest of the day and night and will be at the restaurant to open up for the workers at 8 am tomorrow. I look forward to it and getting making a lot of progress this coming week. Sorry that the blog hasn't been that regular nor have my photos which I know a lot of people enjoy.

I got this via Email from AvocadoBrian. He said that this is the building that Alberto was offering to renovate as a free clinic. I actually think it is a different building but we will get that all worked out next week.

We raised money at our Thanksgiving Dinner at Eddys Sports Bar in Sosua to benefit Poor Children on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. We put together 6500 US Dollars that evening which is big for the Dominican Republic.

We are getting together with Alberto who owns Anoeca to build and operate a free dental clinic for children and adults of the North Coast. We have room to expand and everytime we raise another chunk we will do more in the Clinic such as Pediatrician or Kidney Dialysis or whatever else is needed.

Our website goes public in a few days to promote what we are doing. So far we have a few thousand already pledged in cash but hope to do a lot more via a silent auction of goods and services. We have much stuff already pledged and are getting more daily. If you have anything you can contribute please email me at Jazzpaging@yahoo.com . Together we can do great stuff in a poor country without any social infrastructure fallback like we have in N.America and Europe.

Multimillion-dollar car deal turned to legal nightmare
A multimillion-dollar sale of vehicles to the Dominican Republic seemed like a winning deal for a Miami businessman. It turned into a legal nightmare that almost ended with him being sent to the Caribbean nation on false bribery charges.

Life was good for Shlomo Ben-Tov. He was married with three sons, lived in a comfortable home in posh Pinecrest and had a high-paying job as Hyundai's distributor for Latin America.
Until the afternoon of Aug. 15.
That's when three U.S. marshals marched into his Palmetto Bay office and handcuffed him on a warrant issued by the Dominican Republic. The charge: bribing top Dominican government officials who approved a $56 million contract for the purchase of Hyundai buses and trucks.
Ben-Tov spent seven months in a closet-like cell at the Miami Federal Detention Center -- linked to his wife and three sons by brief daily phone calls -- as he desperately fought the Dominican government's extradition request argued by the U.S Attorney's Office.
Ben-Tov, who goes by the name Sam Goodson, came within a whisker of becoming the first U.S. citizen ever extradited to the Dominican Republic, based on Justice Department records dating to 1963.
To stop the extradition, Ben-Tov and his lawyers successfully proved that the Dominican government's evidence of bribes -- Hyundai money and vehicles -- was entirely fabricated by current Dominican officials. Ben-Tov accused those officials of framing him to smear the previous Dominican administration that did the 2001 Hyundai deal.
''I don't understand how something like this could happen in the United States,'' Ben-Tov, 41, said on Monday, one week after his release. ``It was not an extradition; it was a kidnapping.
''Today, the Dominicans did it to me,'' said Ben-Tov, who moved to Miami two decades ago as an Israeli immigrant. ``Tomorrow, they could to do it to someone else. They will have to pay for what they did. They are corrupt.''
Said his wife, Elena: ``We felt trapped. It was the opposite of everything you believe in -- guilty until proven innocent, not innocent until proven guilty.''
On Tuesday, the Dominican Republic's embassy in Washington said it was fully aware of Ben-Tov's extradition case, but declined to comment.
POSSIBLE FRAUD
In Miami, U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Garber suggested the Dominican government may have deliberately altered documents to secure Ben-Tov's extradition. In October, he had granted the Dominican government's request, based on the low legal threshold for extraditions. He then reversed himself last month citing possible ``fraud or misrepresentation.''
Ben-Tov and his lawyers -- former U.S. Attorney Guy Lewis and ex-federal prosecutor Michael Tein -- said they were stunned by the extent of bogus Dominican government documents but spooked that he could still be extradited on false charges.
''As we looked at this case from every perspective, it was clear to us that the Dominican government's allegations were falsified and their documents were falsified -- that Shlomo Ben-Tov was an innocent man,'' said Lewis, who took over the case from another prominent lawyer, Ed Shohat. ``But he came within a breath of being extradited.''
Ben-Tov's business dealings with the Dominican government began in 2000, just after he had sold hundreds of Hyundai trucks to a Panamanian businessman.
The Dominican deal promised to be even bigger. Newly elected President Hipolito Mejia launched a major public transportation project that included buying 5,000 vehicles.
Thanks to Ben-Tov, Hyundai was the only foreign distributor to win a piece of the Dominican government's contract -- 1,012 buses and trucks for $56 million. Hyundai arranged financing through European banks.
''It was good for both countries,'' Ben-Tov recalled. ``Everything was perfect.''

Easter Dinner in the Dominican Republic

Ok, so you have seen what the electrical system in the DR looks like, right? Here it is and this is the clean stuff.

My buddy Paddy posted a comment here that I don't post anymore. That is because you are at the wrong blog Paddy. Checkout my other blog http://www.escottinsosua.blogspot.com where I post about every day.

I went to Cabrera today to take care of some business. I stopped off at my friend Stephan Shadleys Farm to say hi to him and his family. They are doing well and that was nice to see!

The road from before Gaspar Hernandez to after Rio San Juan were absolutely horrible and just about dangerous. This government should be ashamed at what the main road on the whole North Coast looks like and the danger they are putting the people in here. Great way to stimulate tourism GUYS. I guess that is why I read in Http://www.dominicantoday.com that tourism is down everywhere but Punta Cana. Those fools better wake up and smell the roses. If tourism goes there AIN'T much left.

Towards week’s end 22 energy plants shut down in DR
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican capita was practically dark towards the week’s end, because 22 power plants were out of service, aggravating the energy crisis in the country.
Generation was barely at 96 megawatts, with a deficit of 504 megawatts to satisfy national demand, once the Itabo, the two Cogentrix units and two others were taken out of service.
On Friday night, supply went down in most sections of the capital city, plunging the city into darkness, until energy was reinstated two hours and 15 minutes later.

Yes this country still has severe problems not being dealt with in any reasonable way. If there is money to be made in anything the politicians couldn't give a crap about the health and welfare of its people and it matters not which party is in office.

I read a few years ago that the Israeli Counselate in the DR said that they could solve the problems here with electric in 6 months for the Dominican Republic but they were not even considered because there was no money in it for the polititians!

So all you Leonel apologists out there tell me one good reason that he doesn't straighten this crap out! Make a comment if you think I am wrong and lets discuss it!

I actually thought that it was cute and harmless making light of the ruthless killings by suicide bombers all Muslims. I never thought much about terrorists so I won't go on too much about them but to me this is good that they are showing the world exactly the kind of animals that they are.

They just don't get the fact that there is freedom of speech in places that are NOT Muslim and they just can't get over it.

I am not familiar with Denmark politics but the Cartoonist had a good sense of humor and these animals of course are just looking to riot.

Central Bank warns foreigners against swindling
Santo Domingo.- The Central Bank alerted that “unscrupulous” persons are swindling foreigners, especially Europeans, by undertaking fraudulent real estate and shared vacation plans transactions, using the official Central Bank (Bancentral) and Finance Ministry logos, as well as falsifying official signatures.
“These transactions are done utilizing false real estate and legal firms, by identifying on the Internet individuals interested in selling property and shared vacation options,” according to the Central Bank.

I got a phone call about what I put in my blog and was wondering why I got a call instead of a comment. I reread what I wrote and didn't see a thing I mistyped since that is definately possible at any time but didn't see a thing wrong.

Next time write a comment and mention what I said that was wrong, misquoted or anything else I wrote and it will stay up and I will comment on the comment. If you feel that you were wronged write a reply and send it by email and I will publish it on the blog as a piece instead of a comment so everyone will read it. I have no problems with people speaking their minds if there is some truth instead of delusional rage because you can't stand the light of day!

Haiti from the DR1 News and Commentary

UN: It's time to define migratory policyThe United Nations Development Program (UNDP) representative in the DR, Nicky Fabiancic has said that the DR should improve the way it deals with Haitian migration, making evident that the time is ripe for the definition of a migratory policy. According to a report in Listin Diario, Fabiancic stated that the DR must learn to live with Haitian migrants who arrive here in search of better horizons and that "the solution to the Haitian problem must be sought by international cooperation as the DR cannot do it on its own". He emphasized that the DR has contributed a lot to Haiti but cannot take on its problems single-handed.

What the hell, the UN is thinking it should be involved in a Sovereign Nations business of the Dominican Republic business is hard to understand. While I agree that there needs to be a policy about Haitian workers and illegal aliens I don't believe the UN plays a part in this at all! Hell the UN can't even take care of themselves let along others.

The Dominican Republic does NOT have the ability to solve the Haitian problem and is NOT responsible for it or the cause of it. The DR should make policy on how to deal with the illegal immigration going on every day and a Policy on how to deal with the Illegals already in the country.

The UN should try to help out Haiti in its problems both politically and economically however should stay out of the business of the Dominican Republic.

Mothers and Daughters...

I got a call from the daughter of the S. African whom I wrote about today in the previous blog bit tonight while out having dinner. Now the daughter is a sweetie for sure and I never had a problem with her ever and I believe I even worked to protect her from her mother about a year or so ago but I am not ready to discuss this in the blog at this point. She was upset about my blog and started to argue with me about it.

I felt bad for her as I would for anyone who has a mother with no class or morals. She alluded to something in my blog post that was incorrect which after re-reading it I couldnt figure out what it was.

You are more than welcome to make a comment to point out what I got wrong and I will address that. Unlike your mother, I will give you a fair shot at a response. I would even take email and make it a post in the blog.

Please don't just be a dupe for your mother which I think may be the case. Again I am sorry you have a hard time and I understand why you would. I am truly sorry that this may affect you in a negative way. Too bad a kid can't choose to which family they would want to be born into!

This blog doesn't get the regular updates but will be more controversial.

It you came here from my other blog that was hosted on DR1 you will know most of the people I speak about who either live or have an interest in the Dominican Republic.

I have met a lot of decent people who I want as friends and continue to meet them on a regular basis. These are as nice a group of people I have ever met in my life anywhere in the world and I consider the Domincan Republic a WAY MORE OF A GOLD MINE of great people.

That being said the BAD ones are way worse and harder to distinguish than those that I have met in other places. You have to be careful not to smile sometimes around these people because if you are not on top of your game you may lose any gold fillings you may have had in your teeth and not even know it. Snakes are what some of these people are.

There is one woman I met in the DR who is from S. Africa and married to a American Apologist. He apologises for everything bad his wife says about the US which is a shame. I guess balls are a hard thing to come by for that American.

First time I met these guys we went to a restaurant in Cabarete which is on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic on the Beach. We went into a restaurant on the beach and had drinks and maybe something to eat although I don't remember. This inconsiderate PERSON Blew smoke at me the whole time already knowing how much I dislike it as she chain smoked every second we sat there.

This same person considers herself an environmentalist which is really rich. She pollutes my space and claims to want to help the world. Only thing she cares about is about enriching herself. She takes part in an environmental blog which is the biggest bunch of hot air I have ever seen. If you want a good laugh email me for the link.

Her latest deal is forming a foundation and trying to hustle people into donating which is rich because it is made up of her and her husband and her daughter. The daughter is a sweet and considerate girl but I believe is affected by her mother's greed and financial control although I don't know for sure but I certainly don't want to badmouth her as I do her hustling mother who in my opinion is just one of the useless people here in the Dominican Republic.

She was trying to hustle land in Punta Rusia which in case you didn't know has NO TITLE and even when you get to purchase a piece I am not sure you will actually have anything. I went out there with a friend to check it out after hearing from her the LOW LOW PRICES of land there. If it is too good to be true folks, it is probably too good to be true.

A friend of mine used to work for her and quit when she didn't pay him. I ran into her and she gave me money to give to him which was about 20% of what was owed and she asked me to speak to him about going back to work for them.

When I met with my friend he said, "thanks for the money but I wouldn't go back to work for those idiots ever again". My friend was unemployed at the time he said this to me and I had a hard time understanding him. He just figured it out before I did is all that turned out to be. A wise man he is and I have a new found respect for him after I understood what the story was.

These people tell you they have an international computer consulting business, a Free Trade Cosmetic Business Shipping to the entire Caribbean and numerous other things that seemed to give them credibility. Nada folks, all smoke and mirrors and if these people are successful at anything it just may be the art of the hustle.

I understand that their Cosmetic business is operated out of a building smaller than my bathroom and that it is all fluff just like everything else these people do.

Be very careful of this person as she has fooled many people who I consider intelligent. Not for long as they catch on quickly but you can get into a world of trouble fairly quickly in the Dominican Republic so watch yourself around her. Just remember "Cheap Hustlers are GOOD at what they do or they would NEVER be successful".

My latest experience with these people was at my Thanksgiving Dinner/1st Annual Benefit Auction held at Eddys Sports Bar. I have been doing Thanksgiving Dinners, Easter Dinners and 4th of July dinners for years and simply as a means of getting Expats in the DR together for good times. They wouldn't go to Eddys because a certain Website which most people didn't like put up a free ad for Eddys. They insisted that Eddy paid for this ad although I asked him directly if he did and Eddy said no. Still, she wouldn't support him. Hell when I said this to Eddy he said he would ask the guy to take the banner ad down. I told him not to bother because you can't please all of the people no matter what you do but wanted to make him aware of this.

This "OTHER" website it turns out she was involved in at the beginning. It was invented to compete with DR1. She had a fight and claims to be suing the guy about different issues and that is the only reason she is not on that failing ship. She went back to DR1 to promote herself there and filled the owners head with more BS and not the truth. She volunteered to set up a weather deal to compete with her new found enemy who specialized in this on the other site.

There is no need to mention names here because when you meet these people you WILL KNOW from what I have written to stay away and keep your hands on your money at all times.

Say hello to our friend Mario who just got into town 15 minutes before this picture was taken. He lives in NY and comes here often. I didn't have room in my condos for him and his buddy Howard this trip which of course I am sorry about so they stayed in Costambar for a few days.

I took a room up there myself and hung out with them for a couple of days.

I picked up my friends at the airport, took them to Sosua where I had a Car Rental waiting for them and up we went to Dawns Penthouse for Cocktail 6 hour. Along with Mario and Howard Camden Tom, Mary Lips, Linda Love and Doug Hicks showed up!

Man when everyone came I opened a bottle of the top of the Line Brugal Rum in the Royal Blue Decanter that Mario bought me 2 years ago which I left unopened until he came back to drink it with me. I forgot several times when he was here and he isn't a rum drinker but I remembered this time and brought it up to Dawns for the occassion.

Then we had about 7 or 8 bottles of wine followed by a 1991 Port which was out of this world! Dawn made apps that were out of this world and we all had a great time!

As you can see the more alcohol imbibed the more dramatic the pictures get:) What a bunch of hams. Before this picture was finished being set up they were already doing breast comments. TOO MUCH ALCOHOL isn't good for people!

Last Night a bunch of us went to dinner in Cabarete on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. We went to Ali's Surf Camp in Pro-Cab for Sushi and regular food.

Say Hi to Doug who along with his lovely wife Linda are currently planning on building a home in Sosua in a very nice gated Community.

Tom and Mary who have a home on the Beach in Cabarete were working on their Farm all day clearing brush and keeping their workers going look the worst for wear but made it to dinner with us.

This is Tamborista also known as Ian in the center and Niko my Communist buddy on the left. Niko had to leave early to make another appointment with some friends from Santo Domingo who are in town to complete a deal on property where they plan to build about 150 Condos by Kite beach in Cabarete. Tamborista is someone I have been reading on Dominican Republic message board for quite a while. I wanted to put the face to the posts but found out that I have met him many times before over the years and we have more than a few things in common. It was great to have him along in the mix last night at dinner. There were 9 or 10 of us gathered for a last minute get together and I really enjoyed the mix of people.

I don't know why people give me the finger when I Photograph them for the blog:) They want their moment of fame I guess and they get it:)

Sitting in the back of the picture is Dori who is opening up a Restaruant in Eddys Sports Bar which is located in Sosua Next week. I have been eating Dori's food and enjoying his company for years and can't wait till he opens. You can never get enough good restaurants in Sosua!

Eddys Sports Bar is probably the most popular Sports Bars in the Dominican Republic offering Ice Cold beer, every sporting event imaginable, beautiful women serving, Free Wireless internet and now Great Food. Dinner with a view...

In the center of the picture on the bottom is the bowl of soup I had for lunch today. It was Carrot Curry Soup served at Room Temperature and it was GREAT! I had Tabouli before I had the soup and I needed to drink a Presidente beer afterwards to cool down my mouth from the heat of the curry. Hmmm hmmm good!

The view from the Terrace at Dawns Penthouse wasn't so shaby either and I had a very enjoyable lunch.

Today is a picture perfect day in the Dominican Republic. Temperature is about 82 Degrees F and there is a great wind blowing keeping it cool although when I was at the pool earlier I was roasting in the sun. Give me a break guys, I am an American and don't know Centergrade stuff:)

Tonight early I am picking up a few people at the airport. Doug who is a retired Pro Hockey Player and his wife Linda who is an Interior Designer plan on retiring here in the Future and I look forward to having them as neighbors.

Although I am not nor have I ever been a Hockey fan Doug was a customer of my families shoe business in Atlanta when he was in the pro's. I am taking Dawn with me to get them because she was a fan. She lived in Calgary when he played for the Edmonton Oilers so they can talk Hockey and I can talk Drekarations with Linda:)

My family has a huge store in Atlanta and is famous for having a big following amoung professional athletes. We sell from size 8 to size 22 and can show you a few hundred pair of shoes in your size even if you are a size 19.

This is a Cow in heat smooching with her favorite Bull on my friend Shad's Farm in Cabrera. Every time I go up to Cabrera I stop and hang out with Steven if he is home and around. If he isn't I steal his veggies to punnish him for not being there when I stop. Lucky for me the whole family was home today and I got to see Steven, his wife, his daughter and his son.

Heck he even fed me some of the best Lambi I have had here in the Dominican Republic!

This picture is of a bunch of Ducks he has on the property along with many other game animals for consumption! He offered me a Duck but I am not a butcher or do I clean these bad boys so I said NO THANKS.

I always enjoy my time on Shads Farm and cherrish the time I am able to spend with him when I am in town.

Home on a Cliff

This picture is taken from the back Terrace of the pool being built on the cliff in Cabrera on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic.

I am involved in the financing and buildout of 9 Villas on a very special piece of property. This home is already sold and it was the first one in the project but they are breaking ground on 3 more homes this month both 1 and 2 story with this fabulous view.

I purchased a piece of property in Cabrera to build a home and was inspired by coming here to do inspections for the last year of this home being built. It is a half acre directly on a cliff with an unobstructed view of the ocean and I even made the fellow an offer on this home after purchasing it as I fell in love with both the land and the construction.

Rock house in Cabrera Dominican Republic

This is a home built on a big boulder in Cabrera on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic just 15 minutes past Playa Grande which is a golf course considered to be the Peeble Beach of the Caribbean.

Sosua fire leaves 14 families homeless; losses in the millions
SOSUA, Puerto Plata.- A voracious fire caused by a lit candle destroyed the homes of 14 families, leaving its dozens of members without shelter, on Friday night.
The business, worth millions, was property of an Army sergeant, whose name was not offered, but the Sosúa Fire Department chief Jacobo Martinez said that he is a bodyguard of the general Antonio Imbert.
Martinez said that the now-charred house was located near the Larimar hotel and the Polonia restaurant and that there was no electricity at the time of the fire.

New Restaurant on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic

Dori and Eddy came to terms today and Dori will open up the Restaurant at Eddys Sports Bar located in Sosua on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic starting the 15th of January.

Dori comes to Eddys with vast experience as an Executive Hotel Chef having worked on many Continents. Besides fine dining you will be able to get bar food while watching different sporting events.

Dori promises to have Thai Dishes on both lunch and dinner menus which is something I am looking forward to! I have had Dori's Thai food many times before and could never get enough.
